Executive Director, Julie Higgins

Julie was appointed Executive Director of the Reading –North Reading Chamber of Commerce in April of 2012.  Since then, with the Board of Directors and members, she has worked to accomplish many goals:  To be an advocate and resource for local businesses, a community partner focused on business development, and an advocate for supporting and promoting buying locally. 

Julie is a graduate of Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in English and Business Administration.  Prior to becoming Executive Director, Julie spent fifteen years working for Genzyme, a biotechnology company located in Cambridge, MA.  At Genzyme, Julie held the role of Corporate Communications Events Program Manager, focusing on employee engagement programs, marketing, web applications, social media, fundraising, and public relations event planning. 

Julie’s extensive experience in communications, fundraising and event planning is an asset to the Chamber.  Since joining the Chamber, Julie has focused on enhancing communication with members by increasing such things as the use of social media tools and developing a new Chamber website. In addition, Julie works closely with the “Buy Local” task force and implemented the use of “Cash Mobs”, in which the goal is to drive business to a local store on a particular day, increasing both awareness and revenues for the store.  Events like these have been very successful and help to connect the Chamber with both the businesses and community members. 

A long-term resident of North Reading, Julie resides in North Reading with her three daughters.
